Getting Started (again)
10 years ago (!) I created a Medium account with the idea of writing more and documenting things I find interesting in the hopes the reader would find it interesting as well. My first post was titled "I’m a Starter, Not a Finisher". My Medium blog lived up to the first post. In the 10 years since it was started, I wrote one other post in 2024. Not exactly a shining example of commitment.

The gist of that post was, well, I start a lot of things and don’t finish them. Now you’re probably asking yourself why in the world would I start this blog highlighting a failure of my last blog that ended up like so many other projects. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure, maybe it’s to remind myself this is how I am and that’s ok. A saying that has stuck with me ever since I first heard it is “don't let perfect be the enemy of good” (apparently this is misquoted). It’s a reminder that every post or bit of information I share doesn’t need to be the most insightful, Pulitzer Prize winning piece of writing. And with the deluge of AI content we see everyday, it’s nice to connect with a story, photo, or post that was created by a human. If you’re looking for content like this, check out the Kagi Small Web initiative.
So what’s my strategy to keep on track and post more than twice in 10 years?
- Keep it simple - this is the main reason I chose Bear Blog. No bells and whistles, just the writing and content.
- The “Minimal Viable Post” - I plan to have a section to share a quick tip, or reaction post. Not everything that goes up here needs be long-form and in-depth.
If you have any recommendations or tricks that have helped you, please drop a note, I would love to hear them.
